In the Frame & In My Liverpool Home Exhibition
Description
In The Frame is a Mencap project that has been happening with Tate Liverpool since 2006, sponsored by Nokia. The In the Frame group of 10 artists with a learning disability have produced The Art Lovers' Guide, you can download it for free here.
The Art Lovers' Guide is all about enjoying art, whether or not you are an artist. Each member of the group says what they like about art in the guide. They give tips about how to get more out of art and suggest ways that galleries and museums can get better at welcoming and involving people.
The group also ran an art exhibition at Tate Liverpool last November. It was called In My Liverpool Home and it was sponsored by the Liverpool Culture Company as part of Liverpool 08. See the artwork here.
The In the Frame group devised and curated In My Liverpool Home. Over 2000 people came to the exhibition and about 250 artists with a learning disability either sent in work or took part in workshops. Members of the group trained to work as gallery assistants while the exhibition was on. In My Liverpool Home shows a fantastic range of paintings, photography, models, crafts, ceramics and video.
Our thanks to all the artists and the following for their support: the Blue Room project at the Bluecoat, Access to Heritage project (Liverpool Mencap), Moving On With Life & Learning (MOWLL), First Step, and our sponsors Nokia and Liverpool Culture Company! Tate Liverpool has been a fantastic partner throughout, devoting staff time and resources to help the project succeed. Click the weblink below to find out more about Tate Liverpool.
